UT Men’s Tennis vs. Georgia – Sat Feb. 8 @ Noon

A message from UT Head Men’s Tennis Coach Bruce Berque:

“The weather forecast for Saturday is very good, so we are planning to play outdoors at the Texas Tennis Center.  If you are in Austin, we hope you will join us, and bring as many people as possible. I have been getting great feedback about attendance for this one, and I think we have a very good chance for a record setting crowd.  If you are out of town and can’t make it out in person, not to worry……you will be able to follow the scores, and watch the live streams.

Last week, our team lost a tough one to Ohio State in Columbus.  Ohio State has now won an incredible 280 of its last 281 home matches, so there was certainly no shame in that loss.  Although we could have certainly executed better in a few spots, our team played and competed hard and will take a lot from the match.  For further details, click on this recap.

In other news:

  • Yuya Ito was named Big 12 Player of the Week for last week (details)
  • Yuya did a great interview on the Longhorn Network last week, and you can check it out here.
  • In case you missed our match against Florida State a few weeks ago, you can watch the full Longhorn Network broadcast here.
  • Our run at #1 in the rankings ended today, as we are now listed at #4.  The first several rankings are done by vote, but after the National Indoors the rankings will be solely determined by computer.  In the individual rankings, Yuya Ito remained #2, Christian Sigsgaard moved up to #12, and Siem Woldeab moved up to #37.  For the full story about the rankings, please click on this press release.

After Saturday’s match, our team will head to the National Team Indoor Championship in Madison, Wisconsin.  Our first match will be on Friday, February 14.  But first things first!  Our showdown with Georgia:  this Saturday at 12 noon at the Texas Tennis Center!  It should be a great match.  Please help us spread the word!  Until next time, Hook’em!”
