CATA Executive Director Position

The Capital Area Tennis Association (CATA) seeks an inspiring and strategic Executive Director (ED) to lead the organization into a new era of growth and impact. The ED will oversee a team of five staff members: Director of Leagues, Director of Junior Programming and Awards Banquet, Director of Communications and Social Media, Tournament Administrator, and Office Assistant. Together, they drive CATA’s mission through high-quality programs, impactful outreach, and strong community engagement.

The ED will provide vision and direction to achieve organizational goals while fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and excellence. Responsibilities include managing daily operations, overseeing program execution, and supporting staff development to ensure high performance and mission alignment. Additionally, the ED will serve as CATA’s primary ambassador, building relationships with sponsors, donors, local government, and community partners to expand the organization’s reach and visibility.

Working closely with the Board of Directors, the ED will align organizational objectives with CATA’s strategic plan. Key priorities include driving fundraising initiatives, developing sustainable revenue streams, and advocating for policies that promote tennis accessibility and community participation. The role requires balancing short-term operational needs with long-term strategic planning to support CATA’s continued growth and impact.

The ideal candidate is a results-oriented, mission-driven leader with a proven track record in managing teams, driving revenue, and building community partnerships. A passion for tennis, youth engagement, and community impact is essential, along with the ability to inspire staff, volunteers, and stakeholders toward shared goals.

About CATA

The Capital Area Tennis Association (CATA) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to promoting and developing the growth of tennis in the greater Austin area. CATA offers a wide range of programs and services for players of all ages and skill levels, aiming to make tennis accessible and enjoyable for the entire community.

Since 1974, CATA has been fostering the growth and development of tennis in the Austin community with a primary aim to involve more young people in tennis and coach them in sportsmanship. This year, CATA will organize more than 6,000 league participants, host events that capture more than 4,000 adult and junior players and will reach an extended audience of approximately 20,000.

  • Fundraising & Resource Development: Proven experience in donor cultivation, sponsorship acquisition, and securing diverse revenue streams.
  • Community Engagement & Partnership Building: Adept at developing and nurturing relationships with stakeholders, sponsors, and local organizations.
  • Board/Volunteer Relations & Governance: Experience collaborating with Boards and Volunteers to set strategic direction and ensure effective governance.
  • Financial Acumen: Strong budget management and financial oversight skills to maintain organizational sustainability.
  • Team Leadership & Development: Ability to recruit, mentor, and inspire a team while fostering a culture of collaboration and inclusion.
  • Communication & Advocacy: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to serve as CATA’s spokesperson and advocate for the organization.
  • Commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI): Passion for creating inclusive programs and ensuring equity within the organization and community.

Key Attributes

  • Leadership Experience: Minimum of five years of senior management experience, preferably in a nonprofit or sports organization.
  • Board Collaboration: Experience working with or reporting to a Board of Directors, with the ability to leverage their strengths.
  • Financial Management: Strong budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting skills.
  • Program Development: Experience in designing and implementing impactful programs.
  • Relationship Building: Skilled in fostering partnerships with sponsors, community leaders, and stakeholders.
  • Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication, including public speaking.
  • Integrity & Ethics: Personal values that reflect positively on CATA’s mission and community impact.
  • Tennis or Sports Knowledge: Passion for sports, preferably with experience in USTA tennis programming or community sports.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required; advanced degree preferred.

Salary and Benefits

Compensation for this role will reflect a range of factors, including relevant experience, demonstrated expertise, and other considerations. CATA’s good faith starting salary estimate for this position is $100,000 – $125,000, with opportunities for performance-based incentives. A benefits package will be discussed with the selected candidate.
