Did you know that the first phase of construction is now underway for 12 new tennis courts located at Johnny Morris Road, Hwy 290 East? Austin is in great need of additional courts and this site has available land for the City to construct a full 30 court tennis facility, with the first 12 now underway. CATA is asking for the Austin area-wide tennis community to come together and help financially fund and expedite construction and completion of the remaining courts. If you are one of the many Austin area tennis enthusiasts that have benefitted from the lifetime sport of tennis and have a desire to give back with your hard-earned dollars, please contact the CATA office by phone, (512) 443-1342, extension 3 or by email, Director@austintennis.org. Any and all donations, no matter how large or small, will go directly into the Johnny Morris Rd. court fund.

Teams from Austin that competed at the 2008 Senior Mixed Sectionals are the 7.0 Smash Hits (SECTIONAL CHAMPIONS!!!), 7.0 Seniors Having A Ball and 8.0 Oldies but Goodies!!! Congratulations to all who competed at these championships!

Album: 2008 Playoffs

3.5 mens playoff featured the top two finishers from the North and South flights - Waterloo Tennis Facility Racquet Club, Renegades, Westwood 35 and the Round Rock Rumblers. Waterloo won over the Renegades in the Finals to advance to Sectionals in Dallas (however the Renegades earned a wildcard to Dallas sectionals)! Women's teams headed to Sectionals are 3.0 Net Assets, 3.5 Mavericks and 4.0 Survivors!! Teams headed to Little State are 3.0 Alley Cats, 3.5 Mood Swings and 4.0 GOFIGHTWIN!

The Capital Area Tennis Association's 13th Annual Junior Awards Banquet recognized deserving junior tennis players for 2007/2008. In addition to honoring some great local kids and their coaches, we also had local newscaster Shelton Green from KVUE as a guest speaker. The banquet was Sunday, April 27 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel at 6pm.

The Ageless 7.0 Super Seniors WON Nationals in
Mobile, Alabama April 27-29! They beat Hawaii 2-1 in the Finals!!!!Pictured left to right are Nancy Labastida, Martha Gholson, Caroline Willingham, Carol Rosa (captain), Sue Hatch, Midge Goodrich, Belva Courts and Ann Gilmer. CONGRATULATIONS, GIRLS!!!

Album: 2008 Lone Star Tournament

This year's Lone Star tournament braved the rainy weather at the Polo Tennis & Fitness Club. Two teams competed, one from River Place Country Club and the other from Steiner Ranch. The River Place team won 2 out of 3 scheduled team matches and will advance to Lone Star sectionals in Dallas the second weekend in August! Congratulations to both teams, and many thanks to the Polo Club for continuing to support CATA's Lone Star ladies by allowing us to use their courts for this morning of fun tennis!

After the rain cleared and the fog lifted, it was a beautiful weekend for a tournament! Many thanks Courtyard and Lost Creek Country Club for being wonderful tournament sites for CATA's Polar BRRR Nothing but Doubles tournament!

Congratulations to our Sportsmanship award winners of the CATA/Austin Super Champ 12s-14s Tournament. The boys award winner is Grant Riechmann of Houston and the girls award winner is Brittany Brewster of Austin. Your sportsmanship awards will be on their way to you soon!
